What Is A Zipper?

Fastener that is made from two rows of teeth that can be individual or shaped from continuous coil, also referred to as “elements” which are joined together by the slider which separates or joins the elements of both rows. The zipper got its name by the high-pitched “zip” sound made when the zipper is used.

What Is A Slider?

A slider has a Y-shaped channel that allows it to travel up and down and either separate or joins the elements to open or close the zipper. The slider consists of two parts : the pull tab that is used to operate a zipper and the body which actually glides on the zipper teeth. There are many features to choose from when selecting a slider : size, locking or non-locking, shape, color and materials.

What Does The Size Mean?

The size refers to the specific gauge of the chain. The larger the number, the wider the teeth/chain width is.

What Are The Advantages Of Using A Metal Zipper?

Zipper that has teeth that are pre-formed elements. This type of zipper is mainly used in applications in which high strength is required and need to withstand rough washing.

What Are The Advantages Of Using A Coil Zipper?

Zipper uses a polyester monofilament which is formed into a spiral tooth configuration. The coil zipper is very versatile in the applications in which it can be used due to its ability to self-heal as well as its durability.

What Are The Advantages Of Using A Plastic / Molded Zipper?

Zipper with teeth similar to a metal zipper but made from plastic instead of metal. Advantages include being highly customizable, durable and visually appealing.

What Is “Tape Width”?

The width of fabric on each side of the zipper chain.

What Are “Tape Ends”?

The length of fabric on the top or bottom that extends beyond the teeth.

What Is A Round Spool Put-Up?

Zipper is wrapped on a cylinder with a hole through the middle around which the zipper is wound.

What Is A Flat Spool Put-Up?

Collapsed version of the round spool in which the zipper is wound around a hole in the middle.

What Is A Rolled Loop Put-Up?

The zipper chain is wound into a round shape but not on a spool.
