History

Serving Customers and Our Community
In the early 1960's, the University of Tennessee Department of Industrial Engineering worked with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Office of Tributary Area Development (known today at the Valley Resource Center) to enhance community industrial development. A feasability study conducted in 1964 with the Sequatchie Valley Development Association revealed that a more centrally located slide fastener supplier within the southeast region of the U.S. was needed. As a result of this study, Dunlap Industries began operation in 1966.

In its initial stages, Dunlap's three employees manufactured metal zippers under the trade name of Flint Zippers. Later, after introducing synthetic zippers in the late 1970's, Dunlap expanded and gained significant experience as a major jobber/distributor for YKK from 1980 to 1988. By the early 1980's, Dunlap produced raw materials in several Asian facilities as well.

Increasing Service
Mergers and acquisitions contributed to some of the growth. In May, 1986, Dunlap Industries merged with Cort Zipper of New York. Seven years later, Dunlap Industries acquired US Thread. By the late 1990's, Dunlap formed partnerships with numerous manufacturing facilities around the world to form Dunlapworld, an international manufacturing, distribution and sales network with sales offices in Chattanooga, Graysville, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Taipei and Israel.

To better serve customers, Dunlap added key related trim products such as hook and loop fasteners (a Velcro™ type product), narrow fabrics, tapes, webbings, elastic and plastic hardware. Today the Dunlap sales force, distribution network and manufacturing facilities provide products and services to several thousand accounts throughout the world.

Over 45 Years of Experience
After more than 45 years of service to customers and employees, Dunlap Industries remains one of the largest employers in the Sequatchie Valley. Dunlap Industries maintains seven manufacturing and distribution facilities in the U.S., totaling more than 120,000 square feet of operating space. With vertically integrated manufacturing operations, Dunlap Industries engages in metal rolling, twisting, winding, weaving, coiling, sewing, molding and dyeing services, with full assembly.
